Geosurveys & Geospatial Information Ltd is a registered consultancy firm, established in Nairobi, Kenya. We specialize in geomatics-centered services, which integrate measurement, analysis, and management of geospatial data.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated GIS Developer to support the design, development, and maintenance of geospatial systems and applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both GIS and software development, with the ability to build interactive web-based mapping solutions and manage spatial data efficiently.
This role requires someone who is comfortable working across both open-source and proprietary GIS environments, including QGIS and ArcGIS, and can contribute to the development of scalable and user-friendly geospatial platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop GIS products such as maps, models, and dashboards.
- Develop web portals featuring dynamic and interactive maps using technologies like Leaflet, OpenLayers, or Google Maps API.
- Integrate web portals with spatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS for efficient data management.
- Develop and implement RESTful APIs to enable interaction between front-end applications and back-end databases.
- Create web-based mapping applications using JavaScript libraries (e.g., Leaflet, ArcGIS API) and mobile GIS solutions.
- Ensure real-time synchronization between applications and databases.
- Develop scripts using Python (e.g., ArcPy, PyQGIS) to automate spatial analysis workflows.
- Maintain spatial data, design database schemas, and write complex SQL queries.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot GIS-related issues.
- Integrate GIS systems with enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, asset management systems).
- Develop training manuals and conduct training for staff and stakeholders where required.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education, Knowledge & Skills Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geospatial Information Science, Remote Sensing, GeoICT, Information Technology, Computer Science, GIS, or a related field.
- At least 2+ years of experience in GIS development.
- Certification in GIS-related fields is an added advantage.
Technical Skills – Web Development
- Proficiency in developing web applications using React and Next.js, with experience in APIs and PostgreSQL databases.
- Expertise in creating interactive maps using Leaflet, OpenLayers, or Google Maps API.
- Experience with PostGIS for spatial database management.
- Proficiency in GeoServer for serving geospatial data.
Technical Skills – GIS & Data Analysis
- Advanced skills in using ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, R, and Google Earth Engine for spatial data analysis.
- Experience in digitizing and georeferencing spatial datasets.
- Develop scripts using Python (e.g., ArcPy, PyQGIS) to automate workflows.
- Exposure to GeoAI or machine learning applications in geospatial analysis is an added advantage.
Core Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work across both open-source (QGIS) and proprietary (ArcGIS) GIS environments.
- Experience with RESTful API development and integration.
- Proficiency in database design and complex SQL queries.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
